U14 Epping V Romford , Cup Round 2

Tight game where Romford come out on top

Only 16 available for Epping and 14 for Romford, where both teams are decimated with injuries and unavailability.
We both start with 15 a side having lent Romford a player and no subs for either. This would be a battle of attrition as much as anything else.

Romford start on the front foot where it was obvious they were much stronger in the forwards, Epping struggling to contain them in the scrums and rucks but doing a good job to disrupt play. Romford backs running some nice lines but contained by Epping.
With the wind behind them Epping were unable to take territorial advantage and decided to run the ball out of their 22 which was met by solid Romford tackling. A few mistakes later and we find ourselves 12 nil down at half time and feeling a bit battered.

In the second half Epping started to work harder. The forwards doing a great job to contain a tough Romford pack and the backs start to run some ball. Great speed from Darcy on the wing led to the first try and an interception from Jacob plus superb support from the rest of the team for the second. Both converted Epping winning 14:12.
Romford return fire with a strong run from their 13 under the post ,followed by an Epping score by Kuba who was displaced from his usual position of lock to outside centre for this game. 19 :19 with 2 minutes to play.

With a scrum on our 22 called following an injury we knew it would be tough to contain Romford. A nice move blind side for Romford led to a well deserved try and ultimately the win.

Tight game. Really exciting to watch. Scrappy from Epping in the first half but Romford are a strong team who always give us a good game.
The way we battled in the second half is to be commended, with a lot of players out of position and 5 of our key forwards missing. Could have gone either way but Romford certainly deserved the win.

Looking forward to the rematch where hopefully Epping ( and Romford) will be back to full strength and wish Romford good luck with the rest of their cup campaign!!

mom goes to Felix for battling hard at no8 and keeping us in the game.
