Great Win for U14's against Basildon

Great Win for U14's against Basildon
A cold and crisp morning welcomed the team to Basildon, we have a great squad of players now and the interchanging of players works very well with everyone putting in the effort. Epping kicked off and started to apply the pressure, good carries from Leo and Tom R who led the pack and was team captain. Epping passed the ball out to the wingers and Tyler scored under the posts after 5 minutes, the conversion was missed. The early stages of the game were scrappy no one controlling the ball and both sides were kicking through rather than governing the ball on the ground. Epping’s defense was strong and Basildon failed to break through, Lewis showed good speed for a break away try after 19 minutes but again the conversion was missed, that made the score 0-10 at half time. Basildon kicked off the second half straight in to Lewis’s arms he then returned the kick for a great individual try within 15 seconds of the restart, the conversion was missed again (0-15). Good forward play developed an opening for Jack H to break several tackles but was tackled just before the try line however determination and strength saw him stretch an arm out to score after 7 minutes, the conversion was missed (0-20). Epping was in control of the game now and Harry C ran in a try under the posts after 10 minutes the conversion was again missed (0-25). Some good passing again saw the ball come out to the wings where Ben ran over for Epping’s sixth try after 12 minutes, Wil converted the try to make the score 0-32. After another powerful run, Tyler scored the seventh try under the posts after 18 minutes, again a missed conversion (0-37). The final try came from Harry C breaking numerous tackles and scoring a great individual try (20 minutes), the try was converted by Ben making the final score 0-44.
Some very good tries especially from our wingers, Scrappy first half, good clearing out in parts in the second half, but we need to be more clinical at the break down to build a better attacking platform. Clear out, secure the ball and set the line or the runners.
A good performance by all of the team, a special mention for Tom R - captain and pack leader, Arthur Y – a good session at scrum half, Jack R – good catches and carries in the pack.
Man of the Match Jack McGwyne - for his nonstop battling performance and extremely high work rate supporting his teammates and ferocious tacking. Well done Jack!!
Well done everyone – next Basildon in the Cup.
