U17's win at Barnet Elizabethans RFC 10-43

Strong performance overcomes Barnet

Epping started the match strong, crunching tackles and good possession, some good forward phases enabled the backs to run some good plays gaining ground on many occasions, one back play enabled Lewis to throw a dummy pass and break through Barnet's defence to score under the posts from 20 yards out which was converted by Arthur 0-7. Epping were again dominant from the restart and the forwards set up good clean fast ball to the backs and Harry burst through the gap to score again under the post - converted by Arthur 0-14. Barnet came back with some strong runs but Epping's defence held strong. the forwards provided turnover ball within Epping's 22, Samson collected the ball and proceeded to run the length and width of the pitch, breaking tackles and handing off defenders only to be tackled 5 meters from the try line, but in support was Tommy S who collected the offload by Samson and scored Epping's third try - converted by Arthur 0-21 HT.

Th second half started with Barnet making some changes and becoming stronger despite the stronger Barnet team Samson again collected the ball from a good forward platform and burst over the try line for his deserved try 0-26. Epping kept the pressure on and the players persistence set up Harry to score his second and Epping's fifth try 0-31. Epping's defence lapsed, a turnover ball and an individual run gave Barnet two quick scores 10-31. The Epping forwards were immense I don't think we lost one line-out or one scrum but challenged and won the opposition scums and line-outs - the rolling mauls were monumental and should have increased the score. Another stable platform enabled the backs to perform a great passing move to Owen on the wing who broke a tackle to score converted by Arthur 10-38. Epping were always in control of the game and another good phase by the forwards saw the ball passed out to Matt who scored breaking the defensive line. Final score 10-43.

Another great team performance - the best performance of the season, well done to all the subs who came on and added to the performance.

Man of the match: Samson for his strong runs, tackling, turnover ball, workload and scores. Well done !!
