UPPER CLAPTON 14'S 39 SAFRON WALDEN 14'S 35

In a game when the score changed hands over four to five times the home and away support had watched a game full of attack and some great defence also.

Clapton kicked of the scoring in the first five minutes with Nathan Jones scoring under the post after some great line out work by the big lads(forwards) conversion was good by George Green 7/0.

Almost from the restart Walden had the Clapton lads on the back foot with some good interplay they scored a try also under the sticks to bring the game level 7/7, with some words of wisdom from the coach the home team targeted the Walden number ten who was having an off day with his tackling this resulted in the home fly half Joe Walker stepping outside his opposite number and reaching the try line for a five pointer 12/7, from Walden's restart the ball was cough by the home forwards who made great ground up to the away teams 22 line from the resulting ruck Luke the flyer came from his wing and received a pass from his fly half smashed through the cover defence to score another five pointer 17/7

Before the end of the first half Walden struck back with a solo try by there inside centre who scored under the post after some weak attempts of tackling by the home side conversion sailed over which made the half time score 17/14

The second half started and finished in the same manner as the first but within a 5 minute period Danny Bolton had put the home team 27/14 up with what is becoming his trade mark of barnstorming runs to score twice both time out wide and no conversions added.

Walden hit back after bringing on 5 subs to freshen up the team this worked as one of the new lads broke some soft tackling and managed to get a seven pointer 27/21, Clapton began to look very tired after all this game was non stop from one end of the pitch to the other all match.

The next try came from Clapton turning over a ruck ball and spinning it out wide again to speedy Luke who managed to avoid four defenders on his way again in Clapton style it was in the corner so conversion missed 32/21, with only ten minutes of the game to go Clapton where gasping for breath and slowing in the heavy surface.

Walden took advantage of this and scorched over for two converted scores making the score 32/35 to the away team, whilst under the sticks coach Elmer asked his players if they had the will ,desire, commitment and the cant say the last word it's a family report the response they gave was we are not gonna lose this game.

So from the restart Jack Collier collected the ball and made some good yards only for Walden to steal it if they had of kicked it out the game would of finished but they kicked deep to Luke who made it to the half way line ruck ball won Twitchet passed out to fly half Walker who had a three man overlap only for him to step inside two players and make it under the post conversion was good whistle blown for full time final score 39/35 .

The young lads new that they had been in one of the hardest games so far of the season but showed they have heart and desire to win even if they have not got all aspects of the game completely right just yet.
