Sunday 14th April

U9’s

The Nuclear Nines were away at Braintree.

The sun came out and the boys played some great games including excellent alignment in defence and some great offloading, and tries.

Players of the match for Henry K for great running and reading the play by intercepting opponents passing.

Player of the match for team B goes to Ethan for some amazing try saving tackling and also William C for him constant tackling and running.

Special mention to Oscar for some lovely runs as he broke through the defence and scored!

Keep up the good work Nuclear Nines!

U15’s

Two match reports for the U15’s in one:

The U15’s played Basildon last weekend in a friendly wanting to go some way towards righting the earlier league result where Basildon won 24-17. The boys played much better this time and won 43-21 at home. The key to the victory was our strong start which evaded us in the last game and ever improving decision making - considering the conditions, choosing the right options and playing to our teams strengths which we have been working on recently so well done boys! No declared MOM for this game as oppo scarpered quickly afterwards so all players take the MOM!

This weekend, we had a return of another fixture that went against us earlier this season versus Thurrock also in a friendly. We really didn’t perform anywhere near our capabilities in two games v Thurrock this season so far (league and cup) losing both but I am happy to write we won 29-22 this time with a much improved all round performance. The boys showed they were up for it in the first 20min going up 19-0 and getting to 40min at 24-7. The final 20min was a much more competitive affair through a combination of a) lapses in concentration, b) lacking hunger for a more convincing win and c) a physical Thurrock showing resilience - we let them back in and the game ended 29-22. Every game is a learning opportunity and hopefully the lesson is learnt that 19-0 can quickly go the other way when you don’t keep the pressure on!

MOM as voted for by Thurrock went to Oliver Neale and Reub Obeney.

We have our last home game of the season v Westcliff in the league this weekend (Sunday 21st April). We can potentially achieve 2nd in the league if we win and results go in our favour with Westcliff capable of the same.

Although winning versus teams that have beaten us feels good it does make us wonder what the story could have been in the league and cup had we of found form sooner in the season. There is always next season for the 1st spot but for now we will shoot for 2nd and your support would be welcome!

We are also having our end of season party, fundraiser and awards after the game to celebrate the boys achievements so far!

We will have a raffle, music and games to play on the green in front of the driving range for a small cash fee to add to our team kitty for next season so come and get involved if your about!

Shout out to the boys recovering from injuries, we can’t wait to have you back when you’re ready and be great to see you when you are next up the club!
