Epping Upper Clapton continue their promotion season with a comfortable home win against Stowmarket.
The sides will meet once more in the league this season although with the Suffolk based side remaining in London North East 3 league from last year, there may be a sterner challenge to be met for the away leg of the league fixtures.
“We started well, and were dominant in the first phase, with our scrums and line-outs both strong,” said Epping coach Dean Cutting. “We raced into a try scoring lead in the first 5 minutes, unfortunately due to the later KO offered to our opponents, in order to assist with their long distance travelling when we fell victim to a low bright sun affecting the place kicker, and squandered a couple opportunities to top up the try points that were quickly mounting. Defensively the forwards and backs took joint responsibility to extinguish the majority of Stowmarkets forays into the home side’s 22, and only a couple of occasions requiring some swift footwork to regain territory and press the visitors back to their own half.
Half Time Score 15-00
Now with the sun to our back, the Epping kickers take full advantage of the low bright watery autumn sun, taking every opportunity to hoist the ball long and high, whilst commanding the entire squad to give chase and pressure the defense into making unforced errors, as the score line continued to creep upwards without answer,
Overall a pleasing day, with scoring opportunities being created across the squad.
Final Score 34-0
Epping travel away next Saturday for the first time this season to meet Beccles.
