A dominant Epping pack was the key to what was, in the end, a comprehensive win.
The Epping Upper Clapton RFC league campaign kicked off the away matches for this season with a credible display at established London North East 3 Beccles RFC.
A hard fought contest from the very first whistle with Epping pressuring the Beccles receipt to score in the first 15 seconds, unfortunately the conversion was missed by the stand-in kicker. Beccles came back into the game and began to apply probing line pressure, superb defense again this week not allowing forward momentum by the home team. At half time Epping had successfully continued to stretch the lead to 0-24.
More of the same after the turnaround but this time Epping took their eyes off the prize momentarily and conceded an unconverted try. Another couple of quick tries from a balanced mix of forwards and backs put the men in red and white firmly back in control of the game, this coupled with rotational changes to the starting lineup is testament to the depth of character and playing options that now exists within the club and squads. The intensity continued and holes began to appear in the Beccles defense. Despite the host teams efforts and notable defense from their forwards. They we’re unable to stem the flow of incoming points, allowing two of the Epping replacements to get themselves on the score sheet within minutes of entering the field of play.
Thanks to all those who made themselves available to travel to our first away match and special mention to our loyal supporters for making the journey and adding a significant contribution to the team effort.
Final Score 5-50
