On a day when the winter weather of high winds and heavy rain really kicked in EUC were facing local rivals Wanstead RFC,
Whilst the visitors have had a mixed season so far and EUC have started well the day and weather could have played a major part in the game and the final result.
From the kick off any fears that the hosts may have had were put to rest as EUC put together some good phases of play that saw them deep into the opposition half resulting in the first try of the afternoon within 7 minutes and this settled the team.
This was to be the tale of the half as EUC put together some fine phases of rugby in bad conditions as too did Wanstead and a good game was in store, however the EUC defence held firm in the face of strong winds and rain and stuck to their systems and this resulted in another 3 tries making the half-time score 26-0.
With the wind at their backs EUC started the second half much the same way they had finished the first half with numerous visits to the Wanstead half through excellent handling and support play across the field in what was testing conditions for all who played.
Wanstead continued to test EUC on many occasions also with various plays but the tight EUC defence held firm and denied minimal opportunities for the men in blue, however at the other end of the pitch EUC continued to test the Wanstead defence on many occasions and whilst they held firm many times the pressure told as EUC scored another 3 tries making the final score 45-0.
A special mention must go to the referee for the day Mr Jerry Avenell whose performance with the whistle contributed to a fine game of rugby in horrible conditions.
Next week EUC travel to Upminster RFC knowing that a hard fought game awaits them.
