Scrappy, scrappy, scrappy.
Our backs got the ball five times and scored three tries. They were awarded a scrambled try, kicked two penalties and got a drop goal. We won 19-16.
Wendon don't have a clubhouse but instead use the wonderful Bell Inn at Wendens Ambo to entertain their guests. It's a tiny pub in the heart of the village and to be honest once players from both sides were in attendance space was at a premium.
Good beer, great sausages, and a bar maid that caught the attention of aew of Clapton's younger players all made for a relaxing post match venue.
Everything was almost lost though when Doodle, having placed his order for a pint and a packet of crisps, tried to win the fair bar maid's heart by calling her 'blossom'. Sadly for Mr McDonald it didn't go to plan and she turned her attention to the more sophisticated and more mature members of the squad. But a few minutes of listening to Jay Brown talking about all the pubs he's owned is enough for any woman and before we knew it she skillfully turned the conversation to the wellbeing of the pub's dog.
So, a rubbish game but a win, fantastic hospitality and a note to take a mini bus next year. All in all, not a bad day.
