Epping 2s maintained there recent run of form with an emphatic 8 try victory over a competitive Datchworth side on Saturday.
Clapton had called upon the services of several of last year's Colts team and in order to accommodate them all some were asked to play in unfamiliar positions.Lucca's Moretta normally a centre moving to the Flank while George Cook, who was rather hoping to ease his way back into rugby after injury, being thrust straight in at number 8.
Datchworth themselves had arrived without a competitive front row so uncontested scrums were call for.
The game kicked off with the club enjoying a good amount of possession which was to lead to the first try of the afternoon through the industrious Joe Walker who blitz through the defensive line and out paced all would be tacklers to touch down under the posts, Douglass converting.
Datchworth restarted and showed some good handling skills that found them deep into Eppings twenty two. Rather than clear there lines the home side decided to run at all costs which was ultimately to provide there down fall as Datch pounced on loose ball and then powered over the line.
That was to prove to be the visitors only scoring opportunity as the rest of the half belonged to the Club with tries from Nick Conway, Will Parish and George Cook to leave the half time score at 26 points to 5 to Epping.
One change was made during the break with Harry Judge replacing Paul Baldwin in the (uncompetitive) front row
Datch had also suffered casualties in the first half with two players being forced from the field with various hurties
Any defensive coaches amongst you would not have been overly impressed with the second half as it yielded a further 8 tries. 3 for the visitors and 5 for Clapton, George Cook and Nick Conway both adding to there first half scores while right wing Lindsey Dobbin, not wanting to be left out crossing for a brace. The try fest ended with Centre and Man of the Match Frazer Parris coasting in from the 10 meter line.
On the negative side the club played the last fifteen minutes with fourteen men as Flanker Matt Sweeney had received a stray boot to the head that had caused a rather Nasty cut over his eye while George Douglass (who has been doing rather well of late) departed with a hurty ankle.
This result will give Eppings young 2nd teamers real confidence as the face top of the table clashes over the next couple of weeks.
With a narrow loss to Enfield during the first round of matches Clapton now find themselves unbeaten in the last four.
As said above Frazer Parris was awarded Man of the match for a splendid around game. hard hits, hard yards and a try to complete the day.
Next week the 2s travel to Saracens Amateurs for there next merit table match.
