Norwich take the spoils after a poor showing from Clapton

2018 had started so well for Clapton. Having shown grit and determination in holding off Romford, it was then followed by a rather lacklustre display at Old Cooperians which ultimately saw them rescue a bonus point in the dying stages. The third game of the calendar year against a buoyant Norwich resulted in a bad defeat for EUCRFC, one they will need to put behind them quickly in order to maintain their mid table league position.
For the first 30 minutes, this was a keenly contested game. Norwich had scored a converted try early on but Clapton were to respond well as they competed in the loose and the returning Dan Jones was probing well from half back. Jones scored EUCRFC’s opener. In the period 10 minutes before half time; Norwich crossed the try line twice, one effort being a rather humiliating maul which travelled over 20 metres. This clearly had an adverse psychological effect on the home side!
As the second half started and even with the elements in their favour, Clapton could make no impression on their visitors. Norwich’s confidence grew, their game expanded and they went on to run in a further 5 tries as the half progressed. In the process the Norwich full back Lawton amassed a personal tally of 24 points. Dan Jones crossed for a second time to give Clapton some consolation. EUCRFC will need a far more committed approach to their rugby if they want to succeed against the upcoming batch of opponents!
