The long awaited top of the table fixture was now upon the men in red and white, thankfully the awful wet weather Essex had suffered for the previous few days had decided to take a day off. The lads travelled away to thier hosts in Rush Green with an air of anticipation and excited chatter in the dressing room. The prematch warm up session had all the indications that the team were ready and willing to meet the task head on.

2.30 and time for KO, unfortunately the next 80 minutes did not provide the entertainment that the game had the potential to deliver from the top two league leaders. M & B appeared to have adopted a kick and chase approach to today’s match, which to all intents and purposes did not provide the scoring opportunities that had probably hoped for, they did however manage to score a rather soft try in the first half which was not converted to finish the first 40 minutes at 5-0 to the home team.

The second half pretty much continued in the same vein as the previous half with lots of toing and froing between the two 22m lines, with neither team making any particular threat of scoring, this coupled with an extraordinarily high penalty count, which resulted in numerous cessations of continual play, finally the boredom was broken by a penalty score by M & B, end result the visitors returned home empty handed and somewhat deflated with their inability to spark an element of life into an otherwise uneventful match.
