On a wet and sticky day under foot EUC hosted Writtle Wanderers in their latest home league game.
With Writtle no doubt buoyant and confident after their previous week’s convincing victory v Dagenham it was important that EUC started well,

This they did with some good phases of play working their way down the pitch and ultimately over the visitors try line within a couple of minutes. This seemed to set the precedent for the majority of the first half with regular scores from EUC after good basic controlled rugby resulting in four tries and the bonus point secured before the end of the half, although Writtle did have their moments and were tireless in their continued effort through-out the first half and tested a resolute EUC defence numerous times.

The second half continued very much the same way with regular phases and inroads into the Writtle half were most of the game was played, and on three of these occasions resulted in well-constructed tries by EUC but yet again Writtle continued to play in the worsening conditions and much credit must be given to our visitors for this.

With the dark setting in the game came to an end with very few people being able to recognise who was who such was the mud that the players were covered in but the final score of 45 – 0 to EUC was a credit and just reward to the men in red as they had continued to try to play good handling rugby in poor conditions and with a much changed side from previous weeks, although again credit should go to the visitors for the tenacious game that they played and never gave a backward step.
