On a bitterly cold and windy spring afternoon at Tewkes Creek, Epping recorded a bonus point win over Canvey Island RFC and mathematically secured a promotion playoff position. The playing surface favoured the Red & Whites who dominated play for large swaths of the full 80 minutes. With only 3 games to go after today, they certainly look like a side who are ready to take the next step forward and hold their own in the London leagues. Fast, fluid rugby is now synonymous with Epping and the loyal spectators will be hoping that the side can remain injury free in the run in to the end of season plays offs.
The pack were able to start where they finished the previous week and within 10 minutes, Epping were two tries to the good. Further scintillating passages of play were only marred by inaccurate final passing and unforced knock-ons. Canvey worked hard for their points and made sure that they capitalised on simple and basic errors from the Epping lads.
Candidates for man-of-the-match was forward dominated this week, Danny Elmer our resident roving video cameraman awarded it to the out of position hooker Dave Allen for his tremendous ability to swap to Back Row at short notice and to put points on the board as well
We are pleased to report that Kurtis Knightly & Ashley Somers have both been selected to the U20’s London & Southeast final selection session next Sunday, they both successfully made the cut at the initial selection day at Old Paulians RFC last Sunday.
