Clapton win John Adler Cup

All Clapton eyes were focused on Bancroft Rugby club last Saturday with the 1st XV playing in their final league game of the season but first off the small matter of the John Adler Cup final for Oldies.
The game was played in front of a large and expectant crowd, true most of them were Jay Browns off spring but when you are used to one man and his dog watching you take what you can get.
With Claptons failure to secure either the league title or cup this season for the first time in six years this was their the last chance of silverware and as the game kicked off you could see by the steely eyes that the Farts were not to be denied.
Clapton were on the front foot straight away and with two massive early hits by Chatters appeared to dampen the confidence of the Burnham back line. The Old boys never looked back and scored a total of 10 tries with Kenty touching down an amazing 5 times (Lobbo who??) although the biggest cheer of the day went to the Burnham full back after felling the Clapton Grizzly by jumping on his back and wiggling a lot. Potato, Ayrsey, Princey, Judith Charmers and Chatters were the other Clapton try scorers.
This try fest was only possible though if the scoreboard hadn't got off the mark by a SWEETLY struck drop goal by you know who...I will not bore you with the details...oh OK if you insist. Claptons direct running had forced their way into the Burnham twenty two and with a mass of bodies fighting for possession and very little cover the ball was passed back by Dr Weeble (strangely straight for a change) to Potato who, under immense pressure, connected majestically with the ball that sailed straight and true directly through the middle of the posts.
Although a heavy victory for the Thornwood based team the score could have been even more if it wasn't for the intervention of three people. Two of them were the touch judges who both took it upon themselves to even things up with several strange second half decisions. The third and more worryingly was the impact off the bench made by Louis Spence. Now in his defence the poor dwarf hasn’t played for a while but after several failed attempts to catch the ball the Ice dance judge (with the help of Kenty) gifted Burnham there only try of the afternoon by a wonderful juggling act that would not have been out of place that evening on Britains Got Talent...bless him!!
Alas this was not to dampen spirits and a terrific result for Clapton in winning the John Adler Cup for the first time of asking
It was down to Paul (Sin Bin) Becerra to proudly collect the trophy before the celebrating could begin. (It will be interesting to see if the team photo with Eben in is used on the website!!!)

The Big Kev sponsored MOM medallion went to Oldies new boy Ayrsey who appears to have been born to play Old Fart rugby... A good lad who is only hampered by his Ginger hair.

This victory brings the season to an end for the 2's/ Extra A but there is one match left on the 28th April where the Centurions will be rolled out one more time to play for the Fruit Bowl against a combined Harlow and Braintree XV (with special guests). Anyone over the age of 35 is eligible to play (even you Stockers) if interested then please let me know.
