10 try blitz for Clapton

It’s been a strange old start to the season for Eppings second string with two comprehensive victories sandwiching a hammering at the hands of May & Baker.
Playing in their first home game of the season Clapton welcomed Enfield to their Thornwood HQ in a friendly fixture played prior to the first of the World Cup quarter finals.
Early week hope that this game would be the first out of the new clubhouse were soon quashed thanks to the bloomin gas man!!

Many changes were made from the side that had succumbed at the hands of May and Baker with youth, senior squad and seasoned vet all included in the starting XV.
Enfield, who had had an unbeaten record up until this match had arrived with a large looking team.

The game kicked off and the early exchanges were even until a pre-planned backs move saw Centre Kurtis Knightly breaking through in mid field and out pacing all would be tacklers to score under the posts and then converting his own try. Clapton continued to find success when moving the ball through the hands with tries soon following through James Kilden, Joe Walker and Mark Kent, the latter with an old fashioned 5 meter bosh!. Knightly converted all tries for a half time 28 point lead.

With the home side firmly on top the second half proved a more scrappy affair as players went on the lookout for tries. Clapton managed six more scores with Kliden, Rogers, Brown and Walker all netting two tries a piece.

To Enfields credit they never gave up and deservedly finished the game off with a try of their own.

A positive performance with heaps of potential for the team that was shown when four of the tries scored were by two of the under 20’s in Rhys Brown and Joe Walker.
This week the 2’s are scheduled to play there next merit table game at Writtle
