George O'Grady takes the armband in an impressive win

Despite multiple changes to the side throughout the week the lads took to the field in confident mood. Chelmsford arrived in Epping top of the merit table and their large pack ready to rumble. Gary Sanderson made a very solid start to his Epping career, playing for the first time in 4 years. A welcome call up for Massive from the 3’s and always a joy to play with.

EUCRFC kicked off into the wind with the early exchanges setting the tone for the day, with some great defence from the young side. The 2’s took a penalty to go 3 up only for Chelmsford to score under the posts but missing the conversion.

The boys looked to move the ball but simple handling errors held them back. The Chelmsford pack dominated the scrums starving the supply the backs craved. The boys kept their heads and eventually the ball stuck for a well worked try by Dale Stalley and coolly converted by Harry Barker to take the score to 10-5.

The forwards had their work cut out dealing with their larger opponents but great direction from George O’Grady who was leading the club for the first time had the pack hitting low and stopping them in their tracks.

Harry Barker, Liam O’Connor and Jordans tackle count was huge putting in a great technical display of how to defend the centre channels.

Slowly but surely the hands improved and the Chelmsford backs could not live with the pace and power of the A’s back line. A further two tries were scored to give a slender lead at half time.

With the wind at their backs the A’s played a solid territorial game and continued to find gaps. Lee Burn came onto the wing for his debut and Toby Sweeny joined his brother in the back row using his pent up aggression to make a nuisance of himself around the park.

Lindsey Dobbin just keeps improving, running some fantastic lines and adding passing to his game, many players to choose from but today’s MOM.

Smash of the match came from Jordan Ambrose as the oppo fly half caught a ball above his head he also caught a young man in full flight from a 10 yard run up square in the chest… Ouch!!

There may have been a cross field kick of the match but we don’t need to mention that!

Try scorers were Jordan 3, Dale 2, Harry 2, Lindsey 1

Crouchy was concust and needed precautionary hospital treatment to end the game a couple of minutes early, he’s ok and back on his feet if not a little groggy.
