Shaky start and stout defence ends with a great win

The Eagles welcomed Romford to EUCRFC this Saturday in a game which promised to be a tough one for the young 2nd XV. The game did not get off to the smoothest of starts with club having to start with 13 men due to mix of no shows and people running late and it looked as if it could be a long day looking at the size of Romford's pack. In fact it was club who scored in this period through hard work in defence then breaking on the counter as the eagle's backs have been doing all season using their pace and hands to break the deadlock. Back up to full strength the Eagles were really tested as Romford exerted their scrum dominance it lead to period of extreme pressure that was matched with stoic defence as Romford camped in the Clapton half for the majority of the second half and only came away with one penalty try in that time. Also club managed to score another break away try of the back of a line out steal to keep them in front.

In the second half the Romford challenged lessened as the big Romford pack tired and had to work up hill. This meant the Eagles were able to pick them off easily after this. Even when reduced down to 14 for a sin bin for multiple team infringements. Club added another couple of scores with the time left and ended comfortable winners 28-7. Another good performance all round with players fully committed and even playing out of position to make sure of the win.
