Fine opening win for the 2nd XV

Epping’s 2nd string began the season with a convincing victory over at Romford on Saturday. The win hadn’t looked likely prior to kick off as the visitors had several changes to make from the starting line up as three players failed to turn up. Positional changes were required with Lindsey Dobbin switching from the wing to outside centre, Scott Stalley coming in at inside centre, Jordan Ambrose moving to the flank and James Kildren, playing in his first game for Clapton moving from centre to Fly Half.
The changes looked to have disrupted the teams flow as a series of handling errors dominated the first 30 minutes with Clapton not taking advantage of the scoring opportunities they had created. Finally with 10 minutes left of the half the visitors crossed their opponents try line when Scott Stalley was on hand to take a pass 5 meters out and his bulldoze his way over.
With the lead now secured the team relaxed and started to show their true potential as they crossed for a further two tries before half time. The first from new boy James Kildren and the second after a superb long distance run from wing Shadai Smith.

The half time chat revolved around support and moving the ball wide. From the kick off Clapton went on the attack that resulted in Kildrens second try. With Romford tiring Clapton continued to dominate with scores at regular intervals through Scott and Dale Stalley, Jordan Ambrose and James Kildren crossing for his hat trick. The final try of the day went to the impressive Liam Rogers after breaking blind from a scrum and dotting the ball down unopposed. Scott Stalley converted to pass the 50 point mark with Dale Stalley also converting two earlier tries.

An impressive opening game for the 2nd XV who show great potential for the coming season. The team possess many strong runners, non-more than Lewis “Lomu” Tillet who’s 60 yard run will long live in the memory of A XV folk lore

Next week the 2’s entertain Rochford Hundred in there 2nd merit table game of the season KO 3PM
