Basildon blown away

With players being called up to the first team as well as several unavailabities, a much changed 2nd XV arrived at a rather blustery Basildon on Saturday.
Clapton's current form has been good with only one defeat this season so far. The test Basildon were to offer though was a different challenge as the team are made of many players in their twighlight years that know their onions and play a very physical, driving game.
Clapton had the advantage of the wind in the first half which they used to good effect by kicking to the corners and forcing the hosts to play from deep in their own half. This tactic was to work well as it led to two handling errors that resulted in tries for the impressive Lindsey Dobbin and George Douglass. This was also the beginning of a fine afternoon for the pair as George added to this try with another two to complete his hat trick while Lindsey went one better and notched up four for the day. That makes seven in to games for the flying winger.
It wasn't all plain sailing for the Club as Basildon were to also cross the Clapton line four times during the match with two tries in each half.
Kenty came on at half time along with the return of Lewis Dorking after injury. Both making an immediate impact. Kenty notched a brace of tries while Dale Stalley also crossed the line.
This was an impressive victory for the Club, not just for the amount of tries but the manner in which they were scored by keeping the ball alive where ever possible by excellent handling and support play.
Special mentions the week to Ali Galloway (or Ali G as he will now be known)who was playing in his first ever second team game and made several strong runs through the game. Also the tackle count of Rhys Brown who was in the thick of it all match. Jack Harty who is developing into a fine second row and finally Scott Stalley who marshalled the Clapton back line well and whose off loads led to several tries.
No game next week but the 2s will be back in action the week after with another merit table match
Oh, can somebody please shut the barn door
