With several cry offs as well as waterlogged pitches this was the first time Eppings 2nd team had managed to get out since mid December......get the excuses in early!!]
Clapton had comfortably overcame Chelmsfords first challenge earlier on in the season but with the recent lack of activity as well as the knowledge that the home sides pack would be strong the vistors were under no disallusion that this would be a tough match.
Clapton won the toss and elected to play down the slope in the first half. There plan was to blow Chelmsford away early doors.
The early exchanges were even with both sides looking to exploit rather lack lustre defending. It was Chelmsford who took the spoils by scoring three unansered tries. All by breaking through tackles in the mid field.
Clapton did pull one back however during the latter part of the half when the ball was moved wide to find the inform Lindsey Dobbin who broke a couple of tackles before popping the ball down under the posts, George converted.
Thoughts that Clapton could make a comeback however were thwarted soon after as Chelmsford scored another try to leave the half time score at quite a few to seven.
The physical nature of this game was taking its toll as the second half was to be a procession of Clapton players leaving the field with various alements.
Claptons defense improved but still leaked a few more tries in the second half.
Special mentions to TC who spent most of the match right in the thick of it and Joe Walker who had an overall fine game. At 17 years old it was a joy to here his rallying speach under the post and then moments later after he had made a long distance run having the game held up while he proceeded to be unwell on the touchline....true Extra A stuff that!!!
A special special mention also to Crouchy, you know what for!!
