The Eagles took a real beating at Wanstead the week before losing 33-3, but the spirit is building with this side and only three players were unavailable for this game, two with minor injuries plus one unavailable. On the day the Eagles had players su

The game started with both sides fairly evenly balanced, Jay Brown returning for his first home in 18 months had a great supporting role in the front row together with Power and Birthday boy James Crouch, the 30 minutes before the game with Danny on the Scrum machine paid off and despite a larger pack the Eagles held their own on the scum for the entire game
It was Thurrock who took the lead with a try in the 10th minute, the Eagles came back through Adam Prince, the Captain, after a pop pass from Harry Barnes who kicked the conversion, he was guesting for the day while his proud father watched from the side-lines having flow back from Qatar for a few days. Thurrock countered soon after with another try
The Eagles soon realised that pace was there biggest asset, and saw a great try form Mike Adams to score his first try for the club from a fine throw to the back of the lineout, he run it in from 40 yards again converted by Harry. Two further converted tries before half time, one by Lindsey Dobbin and a try by Alex Babb saw the Eagles go in with a 28-12 lead
The Eagles then changed Crouch for Dix in the front row; the birthday boy needed a rest. And Dix showed a real talent for the front row and had a tremendous game in the loose, definitely one to watch for the future. Thurrock scored soon into the second half but a great counter by the Eagles saw second row Jack Harty throw a dummy!!!! and pass to Adam Prince for the next try of the game
The second half continued with the Eagles scoring from all over the pitch, further tries followed with two from Tom Davis, one after a fine kick and chase, another fine try by Lindsey Dobbin and the final try on the day from the returning Jamie Illic even although he was yellow carded after only three minutes of his return match, Doooh and rested for a further ten minutes having scored his try
Overall it was a fine performance for a team that is learning every week. Harry Barnes kicked 8 of the ten conversions. Andrew Green continues improve every week and was Man of the Match, the marauding Matt Sweeney reminds the writer of a young Jonesy, and quieter, Alex Babb is a tremendous young player and we wish him well as he goes off to University, and it was great to see young Jordon Elmer in the back row hitting things
It is clear that the benefit of some maturity with Princey, Jay and Tom Davis pays of and where they lead, others follow
If this side continues to work at their game and play as a team the future looks good
PS Danny Elmer even smiled so it must have been a good performance!!!!
