Extra A 66 Hitchin III 7

On paper this looked to be a tricky fixture as Hitchin had put over sixty points against Datchworth the previous week. Unfortunately for the visitors several unavailabilities and players moving up to their second team meant that their fourth team match had been cancelled in order to fill out the thirds. On the reverse Claptons ranks had been swelled by a couple of second teamers that had arrived late and missed the convey of cars travelling to Thurrock.

As with the previous two matches the pitch was bathed in glorious sunlight which made watching most enjoyable but an absolute pig to play in. Clapton started strongly from kick off and were always in control of the match. They scored a total of ten tries, Lobbo being the main benificiary with four, Barks and Medium Kev both scored two each while Moobs and Potato crossed for one each. Potato also converted eight of the ten tries, the final conversion a majestic drop kick from near the touchline (much sweeter than Owen's wibbly-wobbly one the week previous J)

Hitchin did manage a try midway through the second half after taking a quick restart that caught Lobbo napping as he still parading with his chest out after scoring his third try. Apart from that minor blemish it was a faultless display from the Old Boys. All subs were used, most noticable was the return after two years of John “The Guvnor” Knights who made an immediate impact by making a break and running sixty yards up field before being stopped only five yards from the Hitchin line.

Dan watch: “Southwold” Dan Loader made his second appearance for the old boys coming on at half time. This week he managed to touch the ball as he made a ten meter run before immediately retiring from the field with two pulled groin muscles….well done Dan!!!!!!

The MOM Rosette went to Wilson Chui for being a little Tiger

No game for the Extra As for the next two weeks but they are on the exchange looking for a home match.
