There is no greater place in the Country to observe seals than Norfolk, Blakeney is an unbelievable experience, the Norfolk Seals are inquisitive animals who usually swim up to the boat to investigate or decide to stay still and relax in the sun. The same could be said to our very own extra a seal watchers Ayrsey and Cokes who had both decided to decline the trip to Westcliff in preference to the flat surface of Norfolk and our sub aquatic friends.
Fortunatly the oldies could call upon several young'ns that included Adam Power, Lindsey Dobbin and Jordan Ambrose. As well as the Legacy twins the Old boys were missing the likes of Big Kev, Chatters, Massive, some younger regulars in Judith Chalmers and Charlie Oaks. Adam Peermamode also failed to start..infact if anyone knows his whereabouts could u let me know as to my knowledge he is still making his way to Westcliff.
In a tight first half the hosts twice took the lead but only for the visitors to draw level with tries from the impressive Jordan Ambrose. As the half drew to a close the club were looking the stronger team and with the advantage of the wind in the second all looked good for the thornwood massive.
The second half began with kenty taking the kick off and proceeding to make his way up to the seasiders twenty two. At this point all was looking good the the All Weather Pitchers but alas it all went a bit Pete Tong Firstly Kenty hobbled off with a hurty ankle, seconds later a Clapton attack was overturned with the Westcliff Winger finding himself with ball and no one in front of him. Predicably he raced in unopposed which was to seal the fate of the visitors.
Westciff scored another two tries before Jailboy responded with a great solo effort (but don't tell him!).
Westcliffe scored again but the final word went to clapton when Lindsey Dobbin finished an impressive afternoon by dotting the ball beneath the posts, Taliban converted.
Not a great start to the season for Claptons third string but lots of potential as the young and old start to stitch together.
Several good performances nut the Big Kev sponsored MOM pin badge went to Smelley for his endeavour through out the match but also the smile on his face after hearing the ref when enquiring if the Captain was playing Prop!
Next week the Oldies host Chelmsford in there second merit table game of the season
