Serge Elmer dazzles at Milwall

Who ever it was that coined the phrase to win ugly would have been so proud of Claptons old guard on Saturday. With only three recognisable backs (Louis Spences continuing unavailability due to filming of Dancing on Ice), hastily made changes were made with Kenty moving to inside centre, the wings consisting of Matt Owers and Use2be and none other than Danny "Serge" Elmer slotting in somewhat comfortably at full back.
The game kicked off and within twenty five seconds poor Ed Lobbo, one of Claptons "proper" backs, was forced from the field after colliding with Kenty resulting in yet another bloody nose......quite fragile is ole Ed.
Cllaptons game plan was relatively simple, Give the ball to Kenty. Simple but effective as the second row centre went on the rampage. In a scrappy first half Clapton took the lead with a Kent try only for Milwall to level moments later. Serge also made an impact when his rather large arse collided with an opponents hand forcing him from the field with a suspected broken wrist.
Clapton retook the lead moments before half time after a typical Big Kev trundle took him over the line.
Clapton required and improved second half performance and a more focused team started the second half. This was to have an immediate impact after a number of drives upfield the ball was spun wide to find the speedy Alex "son of Russell" Coker loitering on the wing. With a wonderful swallow dive the clapton prop touched down with his first try of the season.
It looked as though the old boys were about to run away with the game but back cam the home side with a breakaway try. The club responded with another score, this time Smelly touching down from the back of a 5 yard scrum. Youthful also thought he had scored when diving, almost as impressively as Russell, in the corner but the referee, rather strangely, decided that the ball had been held up.
Millwall scored their third and final try in the final quarter and then a penalty to close the score to within two points but Clapton held on to maintain their unbeaten run in the BL league.

The MOM medallion went to Mathew "Smelly" Kelley, more out of sympathy than anything else!!
No game for the old boys next week but face Bancroft 2's in the semi final of the John Adler cup the weekend after
