The times are a changing with our ageing band of wrinkly old farts. As the pensioners crossed the whitewash in readiness for their campaign to achieve an unprecedented quintuple double one thing was strangely different.....the introduction of 'younguns'.
In came Ed Youngun into the front row, Doodle youngun into the back row (he smelt of cider!!), Liam Youngun at inside centre and finally George Youngun on the wing.
Concerns that the reduction in the average age would weaken the team were swiftly put to bed as the realisation that young rugby players actually LIKE running with the ball. In fact the below 20s accounted for 5 of Claptons 7 tries with Liam and George scoring a brace each (we will not mention a possible third try for George if he hadn’t thought the 5 yard line was the try line) and Strongbow crossing for one as well. Kenty, Ed Lobbo and Youthful reddressing the balance with try each.
Overall a good performance where apart from the first 10 minutes Clapton were the better team.
The man of the match silver sovereign went to Liam Youngun who apart from his two tries tackled well and grew in confidence as the game progressed.
Next week the NEW Extra A host Stanford 2's in their second Merit Table game of the season.
